What's the version of yourself you're working on?
This question tells you whether someone is in motion or in maintenance, and both are valid — but they need to roughly match between partners. The person in motion is actively working on something: a skill, a habit, an aspect of their character, their relationship to work or to family. They're living with a sense of trajectory. The person in maintenance is comfortable with who they are and primarily interested in sustaining rather than changing it. Neither is inherently better, but the mismatch between them is one of the most underrated reasons relationships end. People in motion tend to outgrow people in maintenance, and vice versa — the person in maintenance eventually feels the steady pressure of a partner who keeps pushing toward more, while the person in motion feels held back by a partner who seems to have stopped. Knowing which one you are and which one they are is genuinely useful information.
